Our Story

About Us Mondulkiri Elephant Tour

Warm Welcome to Mondulkiri: a green and wild paradise nestled comfortably in the northeast of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

As one of Cambodia’s larger and more mountainous provinces—also called the “Serengeti of Asia”—it’s home to a scenic natural landscape marked by green lush jungles.

Mondulkiri offers a quiet escape where local cultures, cool highlands and wildlife create a unique and peaceful journey.

Get ready to explore!

Here, you’ll encounter rolling hills, dense mountain forests, tall evergreen canopy trees.

Fertile valleys are interconnected with streams and a series of cascading waterfalls, all set within a tropical landscape shaped by seasonal rainfall, plant growth cycles, and the movements and activities of wildlife.

You will also visit local ethnic communities known for their warm hospitality, where you can learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Bunong people, an animist minority in Cambodia who believe in spirits living in the forest, rivers, and mountains around them.

At the same time as tourism expands, we will never forget to conserve and protect the environment—for the benefit of all, especially the pro-poor communities, in a truly sustainable way.

We are hopeful that, in the near future, Mondulkiri will grow into one of the Kingdom’s key eco‑tourism destinations for travelers from around the world.

Finally, We wish you all a safe journey and a comfortable stay in our province.

Mr. Sun, Ivan

My name is Mr. Sun.

I am a Khmer man who decided to live in Sen Monorom, close to my best friends. Also, I realized that a peaceful life in a calm province fits me more than a busy city life, so here I am.

I decided to work in tourism for many reasons, including the desire to meet people from all around the world and the wish to help this province develop without exploiting it, while trying to preserve the lifestyle and the culture of the people who live here, such as the Bunong tribes.

Along with me, there is Ivan.

Ivan is an Italian traveler who first discovered Cambodia in 2018 and quickly fell in love with the country… So much so that he couldn’t stop coming back. His journey deepened during the Covid time, when he found himself stuck on a Cambodian island and embraced by a warm circle of new Khmer friends.

In that peaceful, nature‑filled setting, surrounded by vibrant landscapes and the quiet strength of Buddhism and Khmer culture, he began to slow down and truly connect with the local way of life.

Over time, Ivan met Mr. Sun, who invited him to join, sharing Mondulkiri’s hidden beauty, culture, and traditions with travelers from around the world: an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Together—but never alone—we run Mondulkiri Elephant Tour, blending local passion with responsible travel to show you the heart of Mondulkiri in a respectful and meaningful way. Thanks to our wide network of connections across Cambodia, we’re also able to extend our tours to other regions of the country, offering you a deeper and more diverse exploration of Cambodian culture and nature.

Mondulkiri Elephant Tour is a community-based initiative designed to create employment and income for the Bunong people. Revenue supports the protection of our community’s natural forests, serving as a sanctuary for our elephants—the ancestral heritage and cultural symbol of the Bunong minority.

We rescue these majestic animals from exploitative practices, such as elephant riding by tour agencies and other commercial projects that prioritize profit over welfare. Instead of buying elephants for company interests, we care for those already in our community.

We invite you to visit and meet our elephants! We offer 1 or more days tours featuring ethical elephant encounters, trekking, and sightseeing.
